Quiet games for winding down at night

Quiet games for winding down at night

June 27, 2026 · Mikael Sorensen

Not every evening calls for a race or a boss fight. Sometimes you just want a game that lowers your heart rate instead of raising it, and the phone is full of them if you know where to look.

Lanterns of Vel is the one we reach for most. It's an exploration adventure with no combat and no timer — just a soft valley to wander and small puzzles to solve. The light and music shift as you make progress, and that steady calm is the whole point.

Calm games live or die on their pacing. Push too hard with puzzles and it becomes work; give the player nothing and it becomes boring. The good ones find a middle lane where you're gently curious the whole way through.

If your nights end with you doom-scrolling instead of sleeping, a quiet game is a better off-ramp. It gives your hands something to do while your brain slows down.
