Tideborn Empire

★★★★☆ 4.2 Editor rating

Tideborn Empire asks you to grow a seaside city while the tide quite literally reshapes your land every few turns. It's a clever twist — docks that work at high tide are useless at low, so you plan around a rhythm instead of a static map. We lost our first colony to a surprise storm and immediately respected the game more.

The strategy layer is thoughtful. You juggle trade routes, keep your people fed and fend off the occasional raid, and the systems talk to each other in ways that reward long-term thinking. Menus can get busy on a small screen, but zooming is smooth and nothing felt mistyped.

It's a slower, calmer game than most on this list — one for evenings rather than bus stops. If you like watching a plan come together over hours, it's an easy recommendation.
